Twackle: New Twitter tool to promote women’s sports?

I came a cross a cool new tool yeterday, called Twackle: Your Sportsbar in the Twittersphere.
Just launched a few weeks ago.
Essentially, Twackle pulls RSS feeds from Twitter searches for specific sports teams. You can create your own “Twackle” widget and utilize the Facebook application to spread these tweets.
Diverse, dynamic, portable and customizable. Four things that could equal success in the sports information industry.
But can it help women’s sports? That’s what this post is all about. First, let’s dive a little deeper into what Twackle is and how it makes money.
According to social media sports blogger Jason Peck, over time, Twackle is going to attempt to monetize the service by selling ad-based tweets that are occasionally inserted into the data streams.
How does he know this?
Well, Jason took initiative and messaged Twackle’s VP, Jim DeLorenzo. Yesterday, they talked on the phone. Check out the interview here.
My criticism of Twackle (of course) is the fact that they don’t showcase ANY women’s sports. But in some sense, I have to turn that finger right around and point it at myself.
If Twackle lets you set up your own feeds, then, in theory, I should be able to set up a channel and hashtag for female sports teams. So I’m going to Tweet DeLorenzo later to day to find out if this is possible.
I’ll be back to update you if/when I’m successful.
In the end, I have to say, Twackle is a really cool tool. But you have to be on Twitter first in order to understand what I’m talking about.
If you’re not on Twitter, you need to ask yourself – why not? According to this article in Blog Herald, Twitter is currently the fastest growing social-networking site, with a massive growth of 343%.
If you don’t know what the hell Twitter is, watch this video. Go here, create an account, and start following people. That’s the only way to understand how it works.

Twitter is on my March To Do List. Can’t wait to check it out.
Keri – what are you waiting for??
